this painful and dangerous practice affects one in four girls there. parents want to prevent their daughters from becoming sexually active and thusly pregnant too early so they iron their breasts in the hopes of making them less attractive and "protecting" them from sexual advances. comprehensive sex ed and birth control for these young women seems like a much better option but the government of cameroon refuses to admit that it's a problem and there is little to no sexual education currently offered in schools there.
